My name is Terri Mehlhoff and I’m a functional medicine nurse practitioner. I am the owner and provider at Utah Functional Medicine. I empower women to reclaim their birthright of optimal health. I work with women specifically because it was only 100 years ago when women were still considered property of their husbands. We didn’t have the right to vote or own property, and for women of color it was even more recent than that. Trauma from the buy in of cultural messaging can have generational consequences including subconscious internalization. I have seen too many patients believe they are not worth saving or investing in. They think their value is tied to being all things to all people and putting themselves and their health/well-being last is a badge of honor. Getting profoundly healthy empowers people to change the programming of their lives and the lives of others.
I went to Peru on a humanitarian trip in 2006. While there we gave micro loans to women. If you’re not familiar, we gave literally $40 loans to start businesses in an attempt to lift themselves out of generational poverty. Men used to be eligible to receive these loans as well until it was discovered that men used the money on alcohol, tobacco and prostitutes. Women on the other hand used the money to improve the lives of their families and communities. This is not an attack on men in general, I have the privilege to know some incredible men, its just the facts. I work with women because investing in women has a ripple effect, they tend to use their energy, knowledge and power to empower others around them.
I see women who have been diagnosed with autoimmune conditions, thyroid conditions, diabetes/metabolic syndrome/obesity, high blood pressure/cholesterol, depression/anxiety and they were given medications that either didn’t work, only worked temporarily or had unwanted side effects. Some have vague symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, or brain fog and were told nothing was ‘wrong’ with them, they were given a medication for their mood.
I do functional lab testing: blood, stool, urine and often breath. I put those results together with a thorough health history to make a clinical picture. Once we know the why we can work together to correct the what. I put a lot of time and energy into helping my patients make lasting behavior changes because solutions without personal accountability don’t work, at least not for long. We end up working together for an average of 3-6 mos, longer if necessary.
There has never been a better time in history to take control over your own health. Feel free to contact me for a free initial consultation. I look forward to speaking with you.
In Health, Terri
